Donald Trump, the President of the United States, stated on Monday, June 18, that he will not allow the United States to become a camp for refugees and migrants. According to Reuters, Trump said, 'The United States will not become a camp for migrants, it will not become a center for holding refugees.' The President emphasized during a conversation with reporters at the White House: 'Look at what is happening in Europe and other countries; as long as I am here, I will not allow such a thing to happen in the United States.' Reuters reports that while Trump criticized Europe's immigration policy, pressures in the U.S. have intensified to stop the policy of separating children from migrant families at the border with Mexico. We do not want what happened regarding immigration in Europe to happen here.' The U.S. President added, 'Crime in Germany is rising. Major mistakes have occurred throughout Europe, and the entry of millions of migrants has violently changed their culture.' Trump has consistently stated that he wants to end the policy of separating children but simultaneously blames Democrats for this situation, claiming they have obstructed the passage of laws related to border security and illegal immigration, despite the fact that the Democratic Party is in the minority in Congress. Republican Senator Ben Sasse, a critic of Trump, stated: 'Some in the government think this ruthless approach will give them the upper hand when drafting legislation. This is wrong. Americans do not take children hostage.' Democrats have also intensified their opposition to this policy, describing it as 'demonic.' Over the past two days, a group of Democratic members of Congress visited temporary child detention centers along the border with Mexico.
