Trump: I Will Strengthen and Improve America's Defensive Capability

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, stated on Friday that he will request a massive budget from Congress for the largest military empowerment in the history of the country to make the nation's defense capability better and stronger. According to Reuters, Trump, speaking at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, defended his core slogan based on America's primacy. In this speech, the President outlined his plans to strengthen the military, reform taxes, and fight against radical Islamists. Trump emphasized that the modernization program for the U.S. military will be pursued in both defensive and offensive areas and that he will request a huge budget from Congress to make America's defense 'larger, better, and stronger than ever before.' The President stated: 'I hope we never have to use (our military power), but no one will dare to mess with us. No one. This will be one of the greatest empowerments of the military in American history.' Reuters notes that Trump's speech had a nationalist content that continued the atmosphere of his campaign. The President also criticized the media on Friday for what he called the dissemination of 'fake news.' Trump said: 'We are fighting fake news, fake news. Fake news does not tell the truth. (Fake news) does not represent the people. They have no sources. Nothing.' He stated: 'I called (the purveyors of) fake news the enemy of the people. They are the enemy of the people because they have no sources. These are fabricated when the essence of such news is not true.' The President continued: 'I am not against the media; I am against fake news. If bad news is published about me and I deserve that news, I will not be upset.' Trump has repeatedly accused some U.S. media of 'dishonesty' and claims that these media cover news related to his administration with a negative outlook. In another part of his remarks, Trump emphasized that he will not allow 'radical Islamist terrorists' to reach America. He added that plans to destroy the Islamic State (ISIS) group are underway. However, Trump promised that the construction of the wall at the border with Mexico would begin much sooner than scheduled. Reuters reports that in an administrative report from the Department of Homeland Security, a copy of which was seen by the news agency, the cost of building the wall is estimated at $21.6 billion and the time required for its construction is over three years. Donald Trump, as he had promised during his campaign, has continued to emphasize the construction of the wall at the U.S.-Mexico border after his victory. According to the President, building this wall will help with issues such as curbing illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and creating security. On the other hand, this idea has critics both inside and outside the United States.
