Trump: Iran is playing us because it is used to negotiating with fools in this country

The President of the United States says that all he wants from Iran is for it not to have nuclear weapons, "otherwise it will face severe consequences." Donald Trump said on Monday, April 25, during a meeting with his Salvadoran counterpart at the White House, that Iran must abandon any efforts to acquire nuclear weapons; otherwise, it will face harsh consequences, which could include a military attack on Tehran's nuclear facilities. In response to reporters' questions about whether a potential response could include an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, he said, "Of course it could." He stated, "They are radical people and cannot have nuclear weapons." Mr. Trump added, "We have a problem with Iran" that he claimed "is almost easy to solve, and we will solve it." The President of the United States referred to the second round of U.S.-Iran negotiations scheduled for April 30 in Rome, Italy, stating, "We have another meeting on Saturday... This is taking too long." He added, "Iran wants to deal with America but does not know how. They are playing us because they are used to negotiating with fools in this country [the United States]." Mr. Trump emphasized that the Islamic Republic must act quickly, as it is close to acquiring nuclear weapons. The President of the United States stated, "Iran could be a great country as long as it does not have nuclear weapons." The first round of these negotiations took place on April 22 in Muscat, the capital of Oman, and both sides expressed satisfaction with it. After this meeting, Mr. Trump said, "The negotiations are going well." He also told reporters early Monday that he had discussed Iran with his advisors and expects to make a decision on this matter soon, although he did not provide details. The United States, Israel, and Western countries are concerned about Iran's increasing uranium stockpiles and its efforts to acquire nuclear weapons, a claim that Tehran denies, stating that "its program is peaceful in nature." However, reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency indicate that Iran's uranium stockpiles have reached a level that, if enriched to 90 percent, would be sufficient to build six nuclear bombs. Iran and six world powers reached a nuclear agreement known as the JCPOA in July 2015, and Mr. Trump, who has always been critical of this agreement, announced the U.S. withdrawal from it in May 2018. Since then, Iran has deviated from its JCPOA commitments and accelerated its uranium enrichment, especially in the past year.
