Trump: More Sanctions Against Iran to Be Imposed After November 5

On Thursday, November 3, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, stated that in addition to the reinstatement of all sanctions against Tehran on November 5, further sanctions would be imposed to counter a wide range of Iran's destructive actions. Speaking at a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of the bombing of the U.S. Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Trump noted that Iran played a significant role in the establishment of Hezbollah and remains its most important supporter today. He cited Iran's support for terrorism as one of the reasons for the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear agreement with Iran. The U.S. announced in May that it was exiting the nuclear deal known as the JCPOA and that sanctions against the Islamic Republic would be reinstated. The United States reactivated the first round of suspended sanctions against Tehran in mid-August. The second round of sanctions is set to take effect on November 5, aimed at reducing Iran's oil exports to zero. Trump stated that all sanctions that were lifted under the nuclear agreement would be fully reinstated on November 5. He added that after the reinstatement of sanctions on November 5, more sanctions would be imposed to fully respond to a wide range of Iran's destructive actions. He emphasized that the main supporter of terrorism in the world would not be allowed to acquire the deadliest weapons. He also mentioned that since he took office, Iran is no longer the same country it was before. Referring to protests in Iran, Trump said that their national currency has collapsed, their lives have changed, and they are no longer seeking to expand their influence towards the Mediterranean but are now focused on their survival. According to the Associated Press, Trump signed the 'Preventing Hezbollah's Access to International Financial Systems' law during the ceremony. In the October 1983 attack in Beirut, 241 U.S. Marines, 58 French peacekeepers, and 6 civilians were killed. Trump, speaking to survivors and families of the victims of this bombing, stated that 35 years ago, 241 American servicemen were killed in a terrorist attack on the Marine barracks in Beirut, and today we honor these heroes. The U.S. President added that apart from Al-Qaeda, no other terrorist group has as much blood on its hands from Americans as Hezbollah. He noted that over the past year, the U.S. has imposed the most sanctions against Hezbollah and just signed a law that will impose the toughest sanctions and hardest blow to Hezbollah to further cut off their access to financial resources. The U.S. has listed Hezbollah as a terrorist organization since 1997. U.S. officials and Washington's allies, including Saudi Arabia and Israel, have consistently warned about Hezbollah's growing power around the world. Hezbollah militants are among the most important forces supporting Bashar al-Assad's regime in the Syrian civil war, which has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions displaced over the past seven years.
