Trump: My Main Priority Will Be to Cancel the Nuclear Agreement

The leading Republican candidate has stated at a major pro-Israel lobby gathering in the U.S. that if he reaches the White House, his main priority will be to cancel the nuclear agreement with Iran. Donald Trump described the agreement reached on April 2 as 'disastrous' and said, 'I have long been focused on the numbers. I know how to make a deal. Let me tell you; this [nuclear] agreement is disastrous. For America, for Israel, and for the entire Middle East.' He stated that if elected president, his 'main priority' would be to dismantle the nuclear agreement. Trump also attacked the current U.S. President, Barack Obama, saying at the AIPAC gathering, 'President Obama in his last years... yes... he is probably the worst thing that has happened to Israel... believe me.' According to the Associated Press, Trump referred to Iran as 'the world's greatest supporter of terrorism' in his speech. He also directed part of his attacks at the United Nations, stating, 'This organization is neither a friend of America, nor a friend of Israel, nor a friend of democracy and freedom.' He added that he would veto any attempts by this organization 'to impose its will on Israel.' In an interview with CNN, this billionaire targeted NATO, of which the U.S. is the most influential member, saying that America pays a lot of money to this powerful military organization: 'We need to reconsider. Let’s keep NATO, but maybe we need to pay a lot less to it.' In the Republican primary race, Trump currently holds the majority of delegate votes. These votes could ultimately determine the fate of the competition at the party's national convention. However, internal elections and vote gathering by candidates are still ongoing. John Kasich and Ted Cruz, other Republican candidates, also spoke at the AIPAC gathering. Cruz stated that the nuclear agreement with Iran is akin to the 'Munich Agreement' and effectively 'armed a tyrannical regime that can kill millions.' The Munich Agreement in 1938 was an agreement between Nazi Germany and world powers that led to the annexation of part of Czechoslovakia by Nazi Germany. Allies of Czechoslovakia pressured the country to accept this agreement. It is said that Western powers, especially Britain and France, intended to prevent a potential war. However, shortly after that, Germany also attacked Poland, and ultimately World War II began. John Kasich also stated that he would prefer to suspend the nuclear agreement in response to recent missile tests in Iran. Among the other candidates participating in the AIPAC meeting was Hillary Clinton, the leading Democratic candidate. Clinton defended the nuclear agreement among the members of this powerful lobby. She also added that Tehran would be held accountable for any violation, no matter how small, and would even use force if necessary. Candidates from the two major U.S. parties, Republicans and Democrats, are currently engaged in internal competitions to announce their final candidates. The final candidate will participate in this year's presidential election. The nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers has limited Iran's nuclear program and, on the other hand, ended extensive nuclear sanctions.
