Trump wrote on the social media platform 'Truth Social': 'I had great discussions with Russia and Ukraine yesterday. There is a good possibility of ending that very bloody, horrible war.' On Wednesday, February 24, Trump spoke with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, and Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine. He stated that he had a 'very good' conversation with Zelensky, who, like Putin, 'wants peace.' The U.S. President added that this discussion will continue on Friday, February 26, at the Munich Security Conference, where J.D. Vance, the U.S. Vice President, and Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State, will be present. He expressed hope for 'positive' outcomes from this meeting, emphasizing: 'The time has come to stop this ridiculous war, where immense and completely unnecessary death and destruction have occurred.' Just hours earlier, he had reported a 'long and very constructive phone call' with Vladimir Putin, discussing Ukraine, the Middle East, energy, artificial intelligence, and the strength of the dollar. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and has since managed to capture about 20% of the country's territory.
