Trump: One of the Worst Deals I've Seen is the Agreement with Iran

The President of the United States emphasized the prevention of Iran's access to nuclear weapons during a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Israel, stating that Israel faces significant challenges, including Iran's nuclear ambitions. Donald Trump praised the 'unbreakable' bond between the U.S. and Israel and promised Benjamin Netanyahu that Iran would never be allowed to access nuclear weapons. The U.S. President stated, 'The security challenges that Israel faces are very extensive, including Iran's nuclear ambitions, which I have spoken about many times.' He added, 'One of the worst deals I've seen is this deal with Iran. My administration has currently imposed sanctions on Iran, and further actions will be taken to prevent Iran – I mean always – from obtaining nuclear weapons.' Iran and six world powers reached an agreement last July to resolve years of tension over Tehran's nuclear activities, which led to a significant lifting of international sanctions against Iran. However, critics of the agreement, including the Prime Minister of Israel, believe that some of its provisions will become invalid within 10 to 15 years, paving the way for Iran to build a nuclear bomb. Donald Trump also stated during last year's presidential campaign that the deal with Iran was 'the worst deal possible' and that he would tear it up if he came to power. U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, have announced a 'complete review' of this agreement, while Iranian officials have referred to the Vienna agreement as an international contract that cannot be revised. In another part of his speech, the U.S. President referred to the issue of peace between Israel and the Palestinians, stating that he considers both a two-state solution and a one-state solution and is open to any solution accepted by both parties. Mr. Trump urged Israel to temporarily halt its settlement policy, which has been a point of contention and protest among Palestinians in recent weeks, and called for flexibility from Tel Aviv in this regard. The U.S. President expressed his desire to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem but stated that this matter would be examined 'very carefully.' Trump said that Israel has no better ally than the United States, and the United States will not have a better ally than Israel. On the other hand, Benjamin Netanyahu urged Mr. Trump to 'take advantage of the existing opportunity' to find new paths for peace. The Israeli Prime Minister also stated that he believes combating the 'growing tide of radical Islam' is possible with the help of the U.S. government. He said he thinks they can 'push back the aggression and threat of Iran.' Mr. Netanyahu criticized Iran's recent missile tests, stating that Zarif, Iran's foreign minister, claims that Iran's missiles are not aimed at any country, yet they write in Hebrew that Israel must be destroyed.
