Trump Reports Progress in Negotiations with Chinese President

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, stated on Friday that significant progress has been made in negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping and expects some existing issues between the two countries to be resolved. According to Reuters, the U.S. President told reporters: 'We have made remarkable progress in our relationship with China. We will have even more progress. The relationship that has developed between me and President Xi Jinping, I think, is tremendous.' Trump added: 'I think many of the potential bad problems will disappear.' Reuters reports that the U.S. President did not provide further details regarding the content of his negotiations with the Chinese President. Xi Jinping arrived in Florida on Thursday at the head of a high-ranking Chinese delegation. The Chinese President also stated: 'We have achieved a deeper understanding in building a friendly relationship towards trust-building.' He added: 'I believe we can have stable friendly relations. For the sake of global peace and stability, we must fulfill our historical responsibilities.' The Chinese President emphasized: 'I completely agree with President Trump.' Washington and Beijing have disagreements over issues such as economic relations, monetary policies, the THAAD missile defense system in South Korea, and China's military presence in the South China Sea. Meanwhile, Rex Tillerson, the U.S. Secretary of State, stated on Friday after the meeting between Trump and Xi that the U.S. and China agreed to increase their cooperation regarding North Korea. According to the Associated Press, Tillerson emphasized that the leaders of the two countries are aware of the urgent threat posed by North Korea's nuclear weapons program and are committed to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
