Donald Trump described the Supreme Court's decision to implement parts of the temporary ban on the entry of citizens from six predominantly Muslim countries and refugees into the U.S. as "a clear victory for U.S. national security." According to AFP, the U.S. President stated in a statement released by the White House on Monday, July 5, that "today's ruling allows me to use an important tool to protect our homeland." Mr. Trump emphasized that "his number one duty is to protect the American people" and insisted that as President, he cannot allow "people who intend to harm America to enter this country." Jeff Sessions, the U.S. Attorney General, also praised the Supreme Court's action, stating: "This decision is an important step forward for restoring the principle of separation of powers across various branches of the federal government." He added: "The travel ban case has raised profound questions about the proper balance between these constitutionally dependent forces." The Supreme Court of the United States on Monday implemented parts of the temporary ban on the entry of citizens from six predominantly Muslim countries and refugees into the U.S. According to Reuters, the Supreme Court's ruling specifies that this ban only applies to individuals with no ties to the United States. The Supreme Court stated that it is ready to hear the U.S. government's arguments regarding the mentioned immigration order in its next session, which begins in October. According to Mr. Trump's immigration order, the entry of citizens from Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen into the United States is halted for 90 days. The Supreme Court also indicated that a 120-day ban on the entry of refugees into the U.S. could also be implemented under the same conditions for foreign nationals.
