While dozens of Trump supporters gathered outside the Georgia jail on Thursday evening to show their support before Trump went to jail, Donald Trump, facing charges of attempting to overturn the 2020 election results, surrendered to the Fulton County jail officials in Georgia. Trump is the first U.S. president in history to be arrested, and he had a 'mugshot' and 'fingerprints' taken at the jail. The former president entered Atlanta to face charges including illegal attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. This is the fourth criminal case against Donald Trump in recent months. The 77-year-old Trump is the first U.S. president in history to be indicted after leaving office. In addition to Georgia, he is also facing federal charges in Florida, Washington, and New York. Trump is set to be tried for the fourth time this year; a trial that includes various charges – even federal indictments – against him. The former president also opposed efforts to move his trial date to October 23 in the Fulton County court on Thursday. He also separated his case from another defendant in the criminal case regarding his 'interference in overturning the election results' who had requested a faster trial. According to The Hill, this announcement from Trump came after Kenneth Chesebro, another defendant in the case, requested the court for a faster hearing, and the Fulton County prosecutor suggested October 23 as the trial date for all 19 defendants in the case. This action also indicates potential conflicts among the defendants in the case. Kenneth Chesebro is seeking to hold a trial within the next four months for his role in the 'overturning the election results' charge. While Trump also has a history of requesting delays in his trial sessions, several other court sessions for Trump – including cases in New York and federal courts – are awaiting their turn for hearings. Earlier, a court in Georgia, which is investigating the alleged efforts of Donald Trump, the former U.S. president, to change the outcome of the 2020 election in that state, filed criminal charges against him on Monday, August 14. According to Reuters, the charges brought by Fani Willis, the Fulton County District Attorney, will create new legal troubles for the leading Republican candidate in the upcoming presidential election.
