Trump announced Scott's nomination on the social media platform 'Truth Social,' stating, 'Rodney has served in the Border Patrol for nearly three decades and has gained extensive experience and knowledge in law enforcement and border security.' Officers of the Customs and Border Protection agency are often the first to encounter immigrants seeking asylum upon entering U.S. territory. Rodney Scott served as the head of the Border Patrol under both the Trump and Biden administrations before his retirement in the summer of 2022. Scott played a crucial role in implementing Trump's immigration policy known as 'Remain in Mexico' during the COVID-19 pandemic. Under this program, immigrants seeking asylum must wait in Mexico while their cases are processed. The policy of rapid deportation of immigrants and curbing immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border is also expected to be renewed. Caleb Watlow is currently the assistant director of the Tactical Programs and Firearms Office. Trump highlighted Watlow's over 23 years of service in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
