Trump Welcomes FBI's Decision to Reinvestigate Clinton's Email Case

Donald Trump welcomed the FBI's decision to reinvestigate Hillary Clinton's email case on Friday, October 28. Meanwhile, Clinton expressed confidence that the renewed investigations by the FBI regarding her emails and personal server during her tenure as Secretary of State would not yield different results from those published in July. James Comey, the FBI director, announced in a letter to Congress members that the controversial case concerning Clinton's emails and her use of a personal server would be reopened. Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, stated that this investigation is the biggest political scandal since Watergate and expressed confidence that it would be examined appropriately. Speaking at a campaign rally in Iowa, Trump acknowledged that he has recently spoken a lot about the FBI but respects their efforts to correct this terrible mistake, asserting that justice will prevail. However, Clinton, hours after Comey's statements, urged him to provide a full explanation to the American people regarding the renewed investigations into her emails as soon as possible. The subject of the renewed investigations into Clinton's emails arose just 11 days before the U.S. presidential election on November 8. CNN reported that the announcement of the renewed investigation has caused concern for the Democratic candidate's campaign, as it is unclear what impact Comey's statements will have on the election outcome with only 11 days remaining. Comey stated that the FBI has found additional emails related to previous investigations and cannot currently comment on the significance of their content, nor is it clear how long it will take to complete the review. Sources indicate that the new investigation is related to emails obtained during the investigation of Huma Abedin, one of Clinton's aides during her time as Secretary of State. Abedin is currently separated from her husband, Anthony Weiner, a former congressman from the Democratic Party, who is under investigation for sending sexual texts to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina. The FBI had seized devices and computers belonging to both of them during the investigation of Weiner. It is reported that the new emails were found on the shared devices of Abedin and Weiner. Nevertheless, Clinton stated hours after the news of the renewed FBI investigation that the American people have the right to be fully informed about the data and documents in this matter without delay. The Democratic candidate added that the FBI director himself has stated that he does not know whether the content of these emails is significant. Clinton emphasized that she is confident that these will not change the conclusions reached in the July investigations. In response to a question regarding the scope of the new investigations, she said that they learned about it through the news just like everyone else, and therefore, they are asking the FBI director to clarify everything as soon as possible. Comey had stated at the conclusion of the investigation regarding Clinton's use of a personal server and email in July that 'this case does not warrant any criminal charges.' He added that Clinton and her advisors had been 'extremely careless' and that it is possible that America's enemies had accessed her personal email account.
