Trump's Advisor: He Will Fully Implement the Nuclear Agreement

One of Donald Trump's senior advisors, a potential Republican candidate in the U.S. presidential election, states that while Mr. Trump does not yet have a precise plan to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, he will implement the nuclear agreement meticulously and oversee it. Jason Greenblatt, Trump's advisor on Israel and the Jewish world, emphasized in an interview with the Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post published on Monday, June 7, that the Republican candidate 'will certainly implement the nuclear agreement decisively.' This recent stance can be seen as a retreat for Donald Trump, who has always referred to the global powers' nuclear agreement with Iran as 'one of the worst deals he has seen' and has stated that this agreement shows America is led by 'very, very stupid people.' Mr. Trump also recently mentioned that if elected as President of the United States, he would revisit negotiations with Iran regarding Tehran's nuclear program and activities. However, this statement from Mr. Trump faced negative reactions from Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran's Foreign Minister. Almost all senior Republicans in the U.S. have a negative stance towards the nuclear agreement with Iran, and even Ted Cruz, one of Trump's main rivals, has stated that if he becomes President, he will 'tear up' this agreement. However, Trump's advisor stated in the interview that this issue is 'much more complicated than that' and added that the New York billionaire would conduct the utmost inspections of Iran's nuclear program if he becomes President. Mr. Greenblatt also stated that Donald Trump does not believe the nuclear agreement will prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons, but emphasized that what Mr. Trump will do to achieve this goal 'has not yet been specified.' Based on the nuclear agreement reached between Iran, the U.S., the UK, France, Germany, China, and Russia, the Islamic Republic agreed to suspend or significantly lift international sanctions related to its nuclear program in exchange for shutting down many parts of its nuclear program. Hillary Clinton, a potential Democratic candidate in the U.S. presidential election, has also emphasized her commitment to the nuclear agreement but stated that if Iran moves towards building nuclear weapons, military action against Iran's nuclear facilities is even a possibility.
