Trump's Nominee for Attorney General Withdraws

Matt Gaetz, Donald Trump's preferred candidate for Attorney General of the United States, withdrew his nomination on Thursday, December 1. Donald Trump, the elected President of the United States, expressed gratitude in a statement for Gaetz's efforts to garner support for his nomination, stating that he was doing a good job but did not want to disrupt the focus of the respected incoming administration. Trump further remarked that Gaetz has a bright future ahead and he looks forward to seeing Gaetz's significant actions in the future. Gaetz stated in a post on social media that he had 'excellent' meetings with Senate representatives the previous day and appreciated the 'thoughtful feedback' and 'incredible support' from many of them. However, he also noted that it had become clear to him that his confirmation for the position would 'unfairly' disrupt the focus of the Trump-Pence transition team. According to him, there was no time to waste on 'pointless' and 'lengthy' disputes in Washington, which is why he decided to withdraw his nomination for Attorney General. Gaetz's nomination last week by Trump had reignited past allegations against him regarding sex trafficking and a relationship with a minor. Gaetz, who has strongly denied these allegations, was not convicted of them at the conclusion of the Justice Department's investigations. Trump also selected Matthew Whitaker as the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, introduced his nominees for Education and Commerce, and chose 'Dr. Oz' to head the government health insurance services. Sean Duffy, a former congressman, was nominated by Trump for the Department of Transportation, while Huckabee stated that Trump will 'uproot the money tree' of Iran's proxies.
