A New York judge has issued a ruling for Donald Trump, the elected President of the United States, in the case known as 'hush money' without considering punitive penalties. This ruling signifies Mr. Trump's unconditional freedom and brings an end to a case that had overshadowed his campaign for a return to the White House. According to the ruling issued on Friday, January 21, Mr. Trump will not go to jail, will not be fined, and will not face any other penalties due to his criminal conviction related to the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, a pornographic film actress. Juan Merchan, the New York judge who issued this ruling, stated that Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony on January 20 will not invalidate the jury's verdict. Judge Merchan noted that the ruling for the elected President of the United States was issued because the Constitution protects presidents from criminal prosecution. However, he added that these protections do not diminish the seriousness of the crime or justify it. The New York judge said, 'The significant and even extraordinary protections afforded to the presidency outweigh all other factors. However, these protections do not have the power to erase the jury's verdict.' Thus, Donald Trump will be the first president to enter the White House with a criminal conviction record. The U.S. Supreme Court rejected Trump's request to suspend the ruling in the hush money case. In a court session, insisting on his innocence, he stated via video conference that this case was an unsuccessful attempt to prevent his re-election. Mr. Trump added, 'I am completely innocent and have done nothing wrong.' Donald Trump did not testify during last year's six-week trial but repeatedly criticized Judge Merchan and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in public statements. Joshua Stengles, the prosecutor in the case, stated that Donald Trump has attempted to undermine the legitimacy of the case with a 'coordinated campaign' and has deliberately fueled distrust in judicial institutions. Following Judge Merchan's recent ruling, Mr. Trump can initiate an appeals process; a process that may take years and continue alongside his presidency. This comes as the U.S. Supreme Court had rejected Donald Trump's request to suspend the ruling in this case just a day before the New York court's announcement. This ruling was issued on the evening of January 20 with five votes in favor and four against, with three liberal judges along with two conservative judges rejecting Mr. Trump's request, paving the way for the ruling issued on Friday.
