Trump's Senior Advisor: Expecting Russia to Withdraw from All Ukrainian Territories is Not Realistic

One of Donald Trump's senior advisors predicted that the President-elect of the United States will have a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, in the coming days or weeks. Mike Waltz, a Republican member of the House of Representatives and Donald Trump's choice for the National Security Advisor position, stated in an interview with ABC News on Sunday, January 13, that expecting the Russian army to withdraw from all occupied areas of Ukraine is not realistic. Mr. Waltz added, 'The Russia-Ukraine war has turned into a war of attrition similar to World War I and is causing the destruction of lives and resources, and it may lead to World War III.' He, being a very loyal politician to the President-elect and having served with the rank of Colonel in the National Guard, declared that everyone knows this war must be resolved diplomatically. Trump has stated he is determined to end the war in Ukraine; Biden's latest military aid to Kyiv. Mike Waltz continued in the ABC News interview: 'In my opinion, the notion that we should drive the Russian army out of every inch of occupied territory, including Crimea, is not realistic. President Trump has accepted this reality, and I believe that accepting this reality by everyone is a very important step forward. We must proceed in this direction.' Donald Trump, who will begin his second term in office after the official inauguration ceremony on January 20, considers himself a great and capable dealmaker and has promised to quickly end the war in Ukraine without specifying the details of his strategy. Mike Waltz, in response to a specific question about the call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, said: 'I expect they will have a phone conversation in the coming days or weeks. This call is the first step, and based on its results, we will adjust our policy.' Since the beginning of the Russian military invasion in March 2022, thousands of people in Ukraine have been killed and millions more have been forced to migrate and flee the country. Experts believe the war in Ukraine is the most severe crisis in U.S.-Russia relations since the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. American officials have typically described Russia as a corrupt and autocratic government and the biggest threat to America. Over the past decade, Russia has been accused of interfering in U.S. elections, detaining American citizens based on unfounded charges, and leading campaigns of sabotage against U.S. allies. In contrast, Moscow claims that the U.S. has consistently ignored Russia's interests and security requirements since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and has fueled discord and dissatisfaction in Russia to advance its goals.
