Trump's Trip to Davos Coincides with Cancellation of Invitation to Islamic Republic Due to Killing of People in Iran

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, is heading to Switzerland this week to participate in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos. During this trip, he will emphasize the improvement of the U.S. economy and the impact of his government's tariffs on certain trading partners. The organizers of the World Economic Forum, which begins on Monday, confirmed that the U.S. President will speak on Wednesday. He is expected to meet and discuss with world political leaders, economic and financial managers of international institutions. The White House has not yet released details of Trump's speech. Last week, in his economic speech in Detroit, Michigan, he announced that 'the Trump economic boom has officially begun' and praised the impact of his tariffs on the U.S. economy. In his speech on January 13, Trump stated, 'Trump's tariffs have brought thousands of billions of dollars in new investment for us... they have brought hundreds of billions of dollars into the U.S. Treasury, helped curb inflation, and significantly reduced the federal budget deficit by 27%.' The World Economic Forum's website announced that this year is expected to set a record with the attendance of 400 senior political leaders, including about 65 heads of state and government; among them are six leaders of the G7, a delegation from China led by Vice Premier He Lifeng, and António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations. The World Economic Forum also announced that it has canceled its invitation to Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, due to the bloody crackdown on recent protesters in Iran. In a message on the social media platform X, it wrote: 'The Foreign Minister of [the Islamic Republic] of Iran will not participate in Davos this year. Although he was invited last fall, given the tragic loss of civilian lives in Iran in recent weeks, it is inappropriate for the [Islamic Republic] government to have a representative at Davos this year.'
