Trump's Victory in South Carolina Primary; Nikki Haley Looks Ahead to 'Super Tuesday'

Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, defeated his fellow Republican rival Nikki Haley in the South Carolina Republican primary, securing about 60% of the votes. This victory paves the way for Trump's third consecutive nomination in the presidential election from the Republican Party. According to the Associated Press, Trump has now won all major Republican delegate contests, including in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This former president's victory was expected to increase pressure on Nikki Haley, who served as Trump's representative at the United Nations and was the governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017, potentially forcing her to reconsider her candidacy. However, Haley has committed to remaining in the race at least until the March 5 primary, known as 'Super Tuesday', during a gathering with her supporters in South Carolina. Despite Haley's increased campaigning and her argument that 'the indictment against Trump complicates his position against her', she was unable to reduce Trump's momentum in her home state and conceded the field to him. The South Carolina primary is historically significant for Republicans; since 1980, except for one instance, the winner of this primary has ultimately become the Republican nominee for the presidential election. Haley intends to focus her efforts on the primary competition in Michigan. However, her prospects for success in this contest appear dim given her poor performance in South Carolina. Currently, Trump and Biden, the current President of the United States, are preparing to face each other in the upcoming presidential election in November. Trump's allies believe that by criticizing Biden's performance on issues such as Afghanistan, Ukraine, inflation, and the U.S.-Mexico border, he can enhance his chances of winning the election. Biden has also ramped up his attacks on Trump and his 'Make America Great Again' movement, asserting that Trump and his policies pose a serious threat to the fundamental principles of the United States. Biden's reelection campaign is increasingly focused on Trump as a person rather than his policies.
