Turkey Arrests Dozens on Charges of 'Links to ISIS'

On Sunday, April 21, Turkey's Interior Minister announced the arrest of 36 suspects linked to ISIS in operations across four provinces of the country. Ali Yerlikaya wrote in a post on social media platform 'X' that police arrested suspects identified as being active in the ISIS group for securing financial resources and equipment. He also stated that the police seized several illegal firearms and pistols during the operation. Since last February, Turkish security forces have arrested over two hundred individuals suspected of having links to ISIS across the country. Yerlikaya had previously announced on April 1 that in a four-day operation across 21 provinces, 51 individuals were arrested in connection with ISIS, with the highest number of arrests related to a group of ten in Ankara. He also reported on January 19 that 147 individuals suspected of having links to ISIS were arrested in operations across 33 provinces. Additionally, three teenagers in Germany were arrested on suspicion of 'Islamist-motivated terrorist activities,' and the FBI is concerned about a 'coordinated attack' within the United States. The threat of ISIS terrorism has led to strict security measures during the UEFA Champions League matches. CENTCOM reported that coalition forces led by the U.S. conducted 94 operations against ISIS in Iraq and Syria this year. The U.S. ambassador in Baghdad stated that ISIS remains a threat in Iraq and is a 'common enemy.'
