Turkey Arrests Over 300 Suspected ISIS Affiliates in Nationwide Operation

On Friday, Turkey's Interior Minister announced that the country's security forces arrested 304 individuals suspected of links to the extremist group ISIS in a "simultaneous operation across Turkey." According to Reuters, Ali Yerlikaya added that these individuals were detained in 32 provinces, with the majority captured in Turkey's three largest cities: Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. He emphasized that there would be no opportunities for terrorists in the country and that Turkey's fight against ISIS would continue without interruption due to the efforts of security forces. The Turkish Ministry of Interior released a video on social media platform X, showing security forces raiding buildings, handcuffing suspects, and transferring them to police vehicles. Prior to this report, no further information had been released about the operation or the nationalities of those arrested. In recent years, ISIS has carried out several deadly attacks in Turkey, including a shooting at a nightclub in Istanbul on January 1, 2017, which resulted in 39 deaths. ISIS confirmed the death of its leader; another person succeeded al-Qurashi. CENTCOM reported that the ISIS leader in eastern Syria was killed in a drone strike. The U.S. stated that the "architect of ISIS attacks in Europe and Turkey" was killed. The U.S. and Turkey sanctioned a financial network supporting ISIS.
