Turkey Returns Suspect Accused of 'Bombing' in Moscow to Russia

The Federal Security Service of Russia and Turkish media reported the arrest of a suspect in a car explosion in northern Moscow, in Bodrum, Turkey, and his transfer to Russia. The suspect, named Yevgeny Serbryakov, is a Russian citizen who was wanted internationally. This 29-year-old was arrested 48 hours after identification in Bodrum, Turkey, and was transferred to Russia on Friday, July 5, by the Federal Security Service. Irina Volk, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated that the suspect's identity was 'quickly' identified after the explosion, and his arrest was carried out in cooperation with Interpol and Turkey. The suspect had fled to Turkey hours after committing the crime. He is accused of bombing a parked vehicle carrying a Russian officer. Following the explosion of a vehicle in Moscow last Wednesday, which left two injured, a court in Russia had sentenced Serbryakov in absentia for attempting to kill individuals. The Russian police later announced that 500 grams of TNT had been placed under the driver's seat of this vehicle. In a video released of the suspect, the conditions under which it was recorded are unclear, he speaks of his 'cooperation' with Ukrainian security and intelligence agencies since February 2023. According to Agence France-Presse, several military personnel and Kremlin supporters have been targeted in bombings of their vehicles since the onset of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine has consistently denied any connection to these attacks.
