Turkish Justice Minister: Saudi Arabia Should Reveal the Hiding Place of Jamal Khashoggi's Body

On Thursday, November 1, Turkey's Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul urged Saudi officials to disclose the location of the body of Jamal Khashoggi, the murdered journalist who was killed last month at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Gul told reporters, "Turkey expects Saudi Arabia to cooperate in the investigations and avoid secrecy. We are seeking answers to the question of where [Jamal Khashoggi's] body is." Khashoggi, a columnist for the Washington Post and a critic of the current Saudi rulers, especially Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was initially denied by the Saudi government, which later stated he was killed during a brawl at the consulate and that rogue agents were responsible. However, last week, Saudi Attorney General Saud al-Mojeb admitted that Khashoggi's murder was intentional. Gul further stated, "There is no possibility of concealment in this case, and we expect close cooperation from Saudi officials regarding the investigations we are conducting transparently and accurately." He emphasized, "No one can evade responsibility for this incident. This has become a global issue." Recently, Istanbul Prosecutor Irfan Fidan, after discussions with Saud al-Mojeb, stated that Khashoggi was suffocated upon entering the consulate in a premeditated murder and then his body was dismembered. Khashoggi's murder has sparked widespread reactions around the world. On Wednesday, several Republican senators urged President Donald Trump to halt negotiations with Saudi Arabia regarding the peaceful use of nuclear fuel due to Khashoggi's murder. The U.S. is calling for a thorough investigation into this murder.
