Two American Media Outlets Report Evidence of Islamic Republic's Involvement in Hamas Attacks; U.S. Government Claims No Evidence

Two American media outlets, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, reported on Sunday and Monday, respectively, that they had obtained clear evidence of the Islamic Republic's involvement and planning in Hamas's attacks on the people of Israel on Saturday. This comes as Biden administration officials state that they have no evidence of direct Iranian participation in Hamas's attacks on Israel. The Washington Post reported on Monday, citing current and former intelligence officials, that the Palestinian militants of Hamas, who killed over 900 people and injured many more in a 'surprise' attack on Israel, had been planning this attack with the help of the Islamic Republic for at least a year. The newspaper added, 'These intelligence officials said on Monday that Iran has provided military training, logistical support, and tens of millions of dollars for the purchase of weapons and equipment to Palestinian militants, and although the exact role of the Islamic Republic in Saturday's attack is unclear, this attack demonstrates Tehran's ambition to encircle Israel with militants equipped with advanced weaponry.' A Western security official also commented on this, referring to Tehran's acknowledgment of paying 'huge amounts for assistance' to its supported militants, stating to The Washington Post, 'If you teach someone how to use a weapon, you expect them to eventually use it.' The Wall Street Journal also reported a day earlier, citing senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah, that Iranian security officials assisted in planning Hamas's surprise attack on Israel. According to the newspaper, commanders of the Revolutionary Guard had been detailing this operation in multiple meetings in Beirut since August, with representatives from four Iranian-backed militant groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. However, John Kirby, the White House Coordinator for Strategic Communications, stated on Monday that the United States still has no information or evidence of direct Iranian participation in Hamas's attacks on Israel. He added, 'But the Iranian regime has long been complicit by supporting Hamas and other terrorist networks across the region through training capabilities and providing resources.'
