Two Awards at Cannes Festival for Shahab Hosseini and Asghar Farhadi

With the conclusion of the 69th Cannes Film Festival, Iran secured two main awards. The Best Screenplay award went to Asghar Farhadi, and Shahab Hosseini received the Best Actor award. The closing ceremony took place on Sunday evening, June 2, in Cannes, France, where the Palme d'Or for Best Film was awarded to Ken Loach for 'I, Daniel Blake.' During the ceremony, Asghar Farhadi received the Best Screenplay award for his film 'The Salesman.' After receiving his award, Farhadi stated, 'My films are usually not happy films, but I am glad that with the awards I have received, I have been able to bring some joy to my people.' The film 'The Salesman' also won another award; Shahab Hosseini received the Best Actor award at the Cannes Festival for his performance in this film. In 2013, Bérénice Bejo won the Best Actress award at Cannes for Farhadi's film 'The Past.' Additionally, the Best Director award was jointly awarded to two directors; Cristian Mungiu from Romania for 'Graduation' and Olivier Assayas from Canada for 'Personal Shopper.' In this edition of the Cannes Festival, the Best Actress award went to Jacqueline Jose for 'Ma' Rosa.' The Jury Prize was awarded to the film 'American Honey' directed by Andrea Arnold. This year, eight filmmakers, including four men and four women from around the world, formed the jury for the competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival, chaired by George Miller, the Australian director of 'Mad Max.' The jury included Katayoun Shahabi, an international distributor of Iranian cinema, French director and writer Arnaud Desplechin, American actress Christian Dunst, Italian actress, director, writer, and producer Valeria Golino, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, Oscar-winning Hungarian director László Nemes, French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis, and Canadian actor Donald Sutherland.
