Two Citizens Arrested in Tabriz by IRGC Intelligence

Human rights sources reported that two citizens from Tabriz were arrested by IRGC intelligence agents on Saturday, December 3, after leaving their home for unknown reasons. According to the report by Hrana, the media organ of human rights activists in Iran, on Tuesday, December 5, Javid Nazemi and Vahid Abhari, two civil activists arrested in Tabriz, are currently being held in one of the detention centers of the IRGC intelligence. The report states that Mr. Abhari has a history of judicial confrontations due to his activities. This human rights organization cited a source close to the family of one of the arrested citizens, reporting that 'one day after the arrest of these individuals, IRGC intelligence agents went to Mr. Abhari's family home and seized some of their personal belongings during a search.' Based on this report, following inquiries by the relatives of Vahid Abhari and Javid Nazemi on Tuesday, December 5, 'it became clear that a case had been opened for them in the third branch of the Tabriz prosecutor's office and is under review,' and they 'are being held in one of the IRGC intelligence detention centers.' Hrana emphasized that 'as of the time of this report, no information has been obtained regarding the reasons for the arrest and the charges against these two citizens.' The arrest of civil activists and protesting citizens in Iran has been repeatedly reported by human rights and civic sources. Among them, in recent days, Yashar Tabrizi, a well-known constitutionalist activist from Tabriz in East Azerbaijan Province, was arrested after being summoned to the IRGC intelligence. Additionally, the legal advisors of Dadban reported in recent days the issuance of an arrest warrant and the detention of a teenage girl in Tabriz, stating that 'the evidence supporting the charges against her in the warrant issued by the prosecutor's office includes her coerced confessions to the agents and the contents of her mobile phone.'
