Two Iranian-Canadian Citizens Elected to Canadian Parliament

With the victory of the Liberal Party in the Canadian parliamentary elections, two Iranian-Canadian citizens have been elected to Parliament. Ali Ehsasi and Majid Jouhari, both members of the new Canadian Parliament and from the Liberal Party, were elected from the ridings of Willowdale and Richmond Hill in Ontario. The Liberal Party of Canada, led by Justin Trudeau, won the parliamentary elections on Monday, transferring power from the Conservatives and Stephen Harper, the Conservative Prime Minister of the country. The election of these two Iranian-Canadian citizens to the Canadian Parliament, which is happening for the first time, has been met with joyful reactions from many Iranians, especially those residing in Canada, who have reflected this on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Ali Ehsasi, a lawyer and legal expert, has been a member of the Liberal Party since the 1990s. He is a serious critic of the Harper government and, in an interview with the Citizen magazine, he protested against Mr. Harper's policies regarding social services, stating that this government has neutralized all 'social services programs that make Canada unique on the global stage.' Majid Jouhari is also an economic consultant who immigrated to Canada about 35 years ago. After being elected to the Canadian Parliament, he tweeted: 'Richmond Hill, thank you for believing in real change for our homeland. I look forward to serving you.'
