Two People Killed and Injured in Tehran Due to 'Indiscriminate Shooting' by Law Enforcement

Two citizens in Tehran were killed and injured following 'indiscriminate shooting by law enforcement forces.' According to the HRANA news agency, on the evening of Tuesday, June 29, police officers shot at the riders of a motorcycle 'with a defaced license plate,' resulting in one rider's death and the other being injured. This is not the first time citizens in Iran have been killed due to 'indiscriminate shooting' by government forces. Earlier in June this year, shootings by the Islamic Republic's government forces against citizens in the provinces of Mazandaran and Sistan and Baluchestan led to at least 5 deaths and 4 injuries. The government news agency IRNA reported on Wednesday, June 9, citing the police chief of Behshahr in Mazandaran province, that during a chase of a vehicle 'suspected of drug trafficking,' anti-narcotics police shot at the driver, resulting in the citizen's death. The IRNA report did not mention the identity of the deceased or the location of the bullet that caused his death, stating that drugs were discovered in the deceased's vehicle. The news website 'Halosh' also reported that 'direct and unannounced shooting' by law enforcement on Tuesday, June 8, towards a group of fuel carriers in the border area of Saravan in Sistan and Baluchestan left at least four dead and four injured. According to 'Halosh,' which covers news from Sistan and Baluchestan, the killed and injured fuel carriers were from Pakistani Baluchistan, and four other fuel carriers went missing during this shooting. Armed agents of the Islamic Republic, primarily the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), have targeted hundreds of people in cities and border areas under the pretext of 'fighting smuggling' over the past decades. Systematic human rights violations in Iran have always been met with reactions from international bodies. The United Nations Human Rights Council on Thursday, April 5, extended the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran and the UN fact-finding mission for another year due to the continued deterioration of the human rights situation in Iran. Direct shooting by government agents at fuel carriers' vehicles in Hormozgan, the killing and wounding of several Baluch citizens following shootings by 'unknown armed individuals' in Khash and Zahedan, the IRGC killing a young man from Marivan on suspicion of 'carrying smuggled goods,' and a young kolber being shot dead by Islamic Republic agents at the border of Baneh.
