U.S. and Israeli Defense Ministers: Iranian Government is a Threat to Regional Security

On Monday, March 4, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran remains a threat to security in the Middle East and agreed that the U.S. and Israel will cooperate in addressing this challenge. According to John Ullyot, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense, Hegseth and Katz also discussed bilateral interests, regional developments and opportunities, and security cooperation. The U.S. Defense Secretary reiterated America's full commitment to Israel's security and stressed the 'unbreakable bond' between the two countries. Earlier, on January 6, Hegseth praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for military actions that have significantly 'humiliated' the Iranian government and its proxy forces. The report from the U.S. Department of Defense stated that during the meeting held at the Pentagon, Hegseth and Netanyahu considered the Iranian government to still be a 'threat to regional security' and agreed to cooperate on 'this challenge.' The U.S. Defense Secretary and the Israeli Prime Minister deemed 'regional integration for stability in the Middle East' very important, with Hegseth emphasizing that the United States, under Donald Trump's leadership, 'will stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel to pursue peace through strength.' Meanwhile, on Tuesday, March 5, Israel Katz wrote on social media platform 'X' that his American counterpart discussed Israeli military activities against terrorism in the West Bank. The Israeli Defense Minister also thanked Hegseth for supporting Israel's efforts to create safe buffer zones within Syria and Lebanon. Additionally, according to the Israeli Defense Minister's office, Katz thanked the U.S. Defense Secretary for pursuing the rapid delivery of weapons to Israel and for 'Trump's commitment to a strong bilateral alliance.'
