U.S. Army Helicopter with Five Marines Missing on Route from Nevada to California

U.S. Army officials announced on Wednesday that a search operation has begun for a helicopter carrying Marines with five soldiers that was flying from Nevada to California. According to the Associated Press, the helicopter carrying these Marines was flying from an Air Force base in Nevada to a Navy base in California when it went missing. Matthew Carpenter, an Army spokesperson, stated that at 1 a.m., it was reported that the helicopter's arrival time at Miramar base in San Diego had been delayed, and the last sighting of the helicopter was in the Pine Valley area. Pine Valley is a mountainous region located about 56 kilometers east of San Diego. A powerful storm in recent days, caused by the weather phenomenon known as an 'atmospheric river,' has swept through southern California, leading to widespread flooding and extensive power outages in some areas on Monday. Heavy snow has complicated rescue efforts to locate the Marine helicopter. According to U.S. media, the missing helicopter is of the 'CH-53E Super Stallion' type; the largest helicopter currently active in the U.S. Army, designed to fly in adverse weather conditions.
