U.S. Attorney General's Intent to Release Mueller Report in Coming Weeks

The U.S. Attorney General has stated that he intends to release a public version of Robert Mueller's report, the special counsel for the Russia investigation, in the coming weeks. Mueller concluded that there was no collusion between Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and Russia. On April 4, William Barr provided a four-page summary of Mueller's report to Congress. Barr has also indicated that he needs more time to decide how much of the report can be made public. A Justice Department official, who was not named, told reporters on April 6 that the Attorney General intends to release the report 'within a few weeks,' 'not months.' However, Democratic lawmakers have asked Barr to provide the full report to Congress by April 2, which means the Attorney General has one week to complete his review of the report. Part of Mueller's confidential report includes matters revealed during secret grand jury sessions. U.S. federal laws generally do not allow the government to release such information. The Mueller investigation report also contains information regarding ongoing criminal investigations that have been referred to other judicial authorities by the special counsel. According to the summary published by William Barr, Mueller's 22-month investigation exonerates Donald Trump and his associates from collusion with the Russian government during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Barr stated that the special counsel's report is less definitive in answering whether Trump attempted to obstruct Mueller's investigation. The report also did not conclude that Donald Trump committed a crime, but it also 'did not exonerate him.' Following the release of the summary of Mueller's report, Donald Trump and several of his senior advisors have strongly criticized a group of political opponents, without naming them, for initiating the investigation in the first place. The U.S. President stated to reporters on April 6, 'I think what happened is a disgrace.'
