U.S. Department of Homeland Security Official: Iranian Drones Have Used American Equipment

The head of a key section of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently stated that "sensitive" American items have been seen abroad, including in Iranian weapons. This is the latest warning from U.S. officials regarding rival governments' efforts to steal American technologies. According to ABC News, Jim Mancuso, Deputy Director of the Global Trade Unit of the Department's Homeland Security Investigations, said that Iranian drones obtained in the battlefield in Ukraine and throughout the Middle East have been found to possess sensitive American communication systems and critical microelectronics components. Mancuso stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran, China, and Russia are attempting to illegally acquire U.S. technologies. The Homeland Security Investigations division is the law enforcement arm of the Department of Homeland Security. U.S. leaders have previously warned about China's efforts to harm the U.S. through cyber tools and the theft of U.S. intellectual property. Mancuso mentioned that America's enemies are using a "very extensive network" to remove U.S. technology from the country, which violates export laws. He noted that specialized "logistics networks" repackaged goods and transported them through China to countries like Iran. He added that some of the technologies being exported can be found in ordinary household items like radios. The U.S. has charged four Chinese nationals with smuggling electronic components to Iran. German media reported that the Islamic Republic has used a company in Germany to circumvent sanctions. The U.S. Department of Justice has taken action against the Islamic Republic's oil smuggling network and financing of the Revolutionary Guard. The U.S. has imposed further sanctions against the Iranian government's financial support network for the Houthis.
