U.S. Diplomat: 'Five Eyes' Intelligence Reveals Possible Indian Connection to Sikh Separatist Murder

The U.S. ambassador to Canada stated that Canada utilized information provided by the U.S. to publicly issue a statement regarding the possible involvement of the Indian government in the assassination of a Canadian Sikh. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau publicly accused the Indian government of potentially being involved in the murder of that citizen. According to the Associated Press, David Cohen, the U.S. ambassador to Canada, told Canadian news network CTV that the Canadian Prime Minister used shared intelligence among 'Five Eyes' partners to comment on India. The 'Five Eyes' intelligence alliance consists of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The Canadian network aired Cohen's remarks on Sunday, which were made late Friday. On Thursday, a Canadian official told the Associated Press that the allegation of India's involvement in this murder is based on the surveillance of Indian diplomats in Canada, including information provided by a key ally of Canada. The official did not disclose the name of this Canadian ally. Relations between Canada and India have reached their lowest point in decades following Trudeau's allegations against India. Hardip Singh Nijjar, a 45-year-old Sikh separatist, was killed in June in the suburbs of Vancouver. Both Canada and India have expelled some of their senior diplomats. India has dismissed Canada's allegations as 'absurd' and halted visa issuance for Canadian citizens, telling Canada to reduce the number of its diplomatic staff. Canada has yet to provide any clear documentation supporting Trudeau's claims.
