U.S. Embassy in Israel Evacuates Non-Essential Staff

The U.S. Embassy in Israel announced on Saturday that it is evacuating non-essential staff from the country due to increased security risks following heightened tensions between Israel and Hamas. The embassy and consulate in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv will remain operational, and there will be no restrictions on their activities. The U.S. government will also cover the airfare for its citizens and their relatives who wish to leave Israel. Applicants must fill out a U.S. government form online. Additionally, the U.S. advised American citizens planning to travel to Israel and the West Bank to reconsider their plans if their travel is not essential. The U.S. State Department also did not rule out potential attacks from 'terrorist groups, independent terrorists, and other violent extremists against Israel and in the West Bank and Gaza.' The Israeli army announced on Saturday that it is preparing for a wide range of offensive operations with extensive logistical support and hundreds of thousands of reserve forces. These operations may include coordinated attacks from air, sea, and land. In recent days, the Israeli army has been engaged in combat with Hamas militants in areas surrounding the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Defense Forces stated that 'soldiers bravely and resolutely took control of Israeli areas and military posts, evacuated the injured, and seized weapons used by terrorists.'
