U.S. Embassy in Kuwait Limits Activities Following Threat from Iraqi Militant Group

The U.S. Embassy in Kuwait announced that it is limiting its activities in the country due to threats from Iraqi militants. The embassy emphasized that the activities of U.S. forces at military bases in Kuwait will also be reduced on official occasions. The Iraqi group 'Al-Wiya al-Wa'ad al-Haq,' which is financially and militarily supported by the Islamic Republic, has threatened to target U.S. positions in Iraq and Kuwait if Israeli attacks on Gaza continue. Since 1991, following the end of Iraq's occupation of Kuwait, the U.S. has maintained two significant military bases in Kuwait. One of these bases, 'Ali Al-Salem,' is located 37 kilometers from the Iraqi border and hosts 750 U.S. troops. The second base, 'Dohat,' is situated 60 kilometers from Iraq in northwestern Kuwait and serves as the headquarters for U.S. Central Command and Kuwaiti forces. A Kuwaiti newspaper reported that the Islamic Republic is sending weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Iraq and Kuwait are resuming negotiations to resolve maritime border disputes. The Gulf Cooperation Council has issued a warning to the Islamic Republic regarding uranium enrichment and the Arash oil field.
