U.S. Emphasizes: We Will Continue to Hold the Islamic Republic Accountable with All Available Tools

On Wednesday, October 4, the Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State stated: "As in the past, we hold the Iranian regime accountable for its malign and destabilizing activities and will force them to respond." Vedant Patel, in his Wednesday press conference, responded to a question about the approaching end of the Islamic Republic's arms embargo and the possibility of its extension, saying: "In addition to UN Security Council Resolution 2231, we have other tools at our disposal, including bilateral and multilateral sanctions, which we have used before and will continue to use to impose sanctions against the institutions and officials of the Islamic Republic and hold the regime accountable." In response to another question about the transfer of seized Iranian weapons to Ukraine, he said: "As CENTCOM and the Department of Defense have previously announced, these weapons, which were seized while being sent to the Houthis in Yemen, are now being provided to Ukraine for use in the war, and since these weapons have left the Islamic Republic and were seized by the U.S. military, their transfer to Ukraine does not violate the sanctions against the Islamic Republic." On Wednesday, October 4, U.S. officials announced that the United States would provide Ukraine with thousands of seized weapons and munitions from the Islamic Republic.
