U.S. Officials Congratulate for Nowruz; Joe Biden: America Stands with Freedom-Seeking Women of Iran

On Tuesday, March 20, U.S. President Joe Biden issued a message for Nowruz, stating, "The United States will continue to stand with the brave women of Iran who are fighting for their freedoms." In his message, alongside First Lady Jill Biden, he described Nowruz as "a time for reflection, renewal, and rebirth" and congratulated "the millions who celebrate this holiday." He added, "This year, Nowruz arrives at a difficult time for many people when hope is needed more than ever, and the United States, in addition to standing with the brave and freedom-seeking women of Iran, will hold the officials of the Islamic Republic accountable for ignoring the fundamental human rights of the people of Iran." In further remarks, Biden noted, "This year's Nowruz comes at a time when the war in Gaza has also inflicted terrible suffering on the Palestinian people, and we will continue our international leadership to deliver more humanitarian assistance to them, including food, water, medicine, and urgently needed shelter." Biden also highlighted, "We have decorated our Haft-Seen table at the White House to reflect the hopes, capacities, and promises of the new year, and as we celebrate the beginning of spring, we honor the diverse immigrant communities across our country that have adapted ancient traditions to tell the ongoing story of America. Now that generations of Americans have spread the hope of this holiday across the United States, we see this hope in the sweets and gifts exchanged among family and friends, in the sound of children banging pots and in the laughter of families gathered around the Haft-Seen table. Nowruz is a celebration that reflects our national spirit and reminds us that hope is ahead." U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also shared a photo of himself next to a Haft-Seen table at the State Department on social media, writing, "Happy Nowruz! Happy New Year to all who celebrate the arrival of spring and the renewal of life. May we cherish family bonds and look forward to brighter days ahead." Abram Paley, U.S. Special Envoy for Iran, also expressed on social media, "We look forward to the day when the people of Iran have a government they deserve; we will continue our support for a free Iran." Additionally, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) shared a photo of an Iranian Haft-Seen, wishing, "Happy Nowruz."
