U.S. President: Confronting the 'Poison' of White Supremacy in America is Essential

Joe Biden, the President of the United States, emphasized the necessity of confronting what he called the 'poison' of white supremacy during the graduation ceremony at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Howard University is one of the institutions that was established before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to admit African American students. Biden, who has repeatedly stated that he participated in the 2020 election to preserve the spirit of the country and has announced his candidacy for a return to the White House, continued by cautioning against 'those who will do anything to maintain power, regardless of how desperate or unethical it may be.' Biden also reaffirmed his commitment to employing racial and ethnic diversity in his administration. He was applauded for mentioning that he selected Kamala Harris, the first woman and Black Vice President, and nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson, who successfully received Senate confirmation for a Supreme Court seat, making her the first Black woman Supreme Court Justice. Biden told the graduates that the history of America has not always been a 'fairy tale with a happy ending,' but it is time to 'place the power that comes from the diversity in our society at the center of American life.' During the ceremony, the President of Howard University awarded Biden an honorary doctorate. The 80-year-old Biden is likely to face 76-year-old Republican Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Trump has claimed without evidence that the 2020 election results were fraudulent. According to a national poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos late last month, in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, Biden leads Trump 43% to 38% among registered voters, with a margin of error of about four percent. The same poll indicated that a minority within both the Democratic and Republican parties do not want either Biden or Trump to run.
