U.S. Prosecutor Issues Indictment Against Suspect in New York and New Jersey Bombings

The federal prosecutor of the United States has issued an indictment against Ahmad Khan Rahimi, an Afghan-American suspected of bombings in New York and New Jersey. According to the Associated Press, this eight-count indictment against the 28-year-old suspect includes incidents such as the explosion in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, New York, which resulted in the injury of 30 people. Shortly after that explosion, security forces discovered and dismantled another bomb. Another bomb also exploded in New Jersey, which did not result in casualties. Ahmad Khan Rahimi was arrested at the end of September during a large-scale search by security forces in New Jersey, following an exchange of gunfire that resulted in his injury. On September 31, the federal prosecutor officially charged him, including in relation to the use of weapons of mass destruction. During the investigation, it was revealed that Rahimi purchased the explosive materials used in the bombings from the online store eBay. He had also recorded a video of himself testing his homemade bomb. Reuters reported at the time that notes found with him described America as the 'executioner of Afghan, Iraqi, Syrian, and Palestinian mujahideen.' In part of his diary notes, he wrote, 'God willing, the sound of bombs will be heard in the streets. Guns will shoot at your police, and your oppression will be eliminated.' Rahimi immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of seven, and his bombings occurred during the U.S. presidential election campaign, eliciting reactions from its two main rivals, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
