U.S. Senate to Consider Bill for Disclosure of UFO-Related Documents

In the coming days, the Senate will review a bipartisan proposal that would require the U.S. government to publicly disclose documents related to potential sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) after decades. According to Reuters, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, along with Republican Senator Mike Rounds, is spearheading this initiative to mandate the disclosure of information regarding 'unidentified aerial phenomena.' The proposed 64-page bill is modeled after a 1992 U.S. law that outlines how to handle documents related to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Schumer and Rounds plan to introduce this bill as an amendment to the annual U.S. military budget for the new fiscal year. Schumer's support is likely to influence many of his Democratic colleagues. Rounds is also a member of the Senate Intelligence and Armed Services Committees. In a statement on Friday, Schumer said, 'For decades, many Americans have been fascinated by mysterious and unexplained objects, and it is long overdue that they receive answers.' He added that the public 'has the right to be informed about technologies with unknown origins, non-human intelligence, and unexplained phenomena.' The amendment would require the National Archives and Records Administration to collect documents related to 'unidentified aerial phenomena' from all relevant government offices. Subsequently, a review board must articulate the reasons for the continued confidentiality of these documents. Senator Rounds stated, 'Our goal is to ensure the credibility of any investigation or archiving of documents and information [related to unidentified aerial phenomena].' According to this amendment, documents must be fully and publicly disclosed within a maximum of 25 years after their registration, unless the President of the United States certifies that continued delay in their public release is necessary due to direct harm it could cause to national security. The amendment also specifies that the federal government will have 'eminent domain' over any technology acquired with unknown origins and any biological evidence of 'non-human intelligence' that may be controlled by individuals or private entities.
