UK Home Secretary: Members of Salman Abedi's Network are Still Being Pursued

Amber Rudd, the UK Home Secretary, stated on Sunday, June 7, that members of Salman Abedi's network, responsible for last week's suicide attack in Manchester, are still being pursued. According to Reuters, the Home Secretary noted that the level of terrorist threat in the country has decreased following police investigations, but members of this network have not yet been arrested. Earlier, police had reported that many members of the bombing network at a concert in Manchester had been arrested. On Saturday, two more members of this network were detained. Following these two arrests, Prime Minister Theresa May announced that the alert level in the country would be downgraded from 'critical' to 'severe.' The recent arrests by British police are part of uncovering a network believed to be behind this incident. According to Reuters, security forces used controlled explosives to enter the residences of suspected individuals. Until Saturday and prior to Ms. May's new order, the entire UK was under maximum emergency alert, indicating an imminent threat of another attack. In this situation, military forces are also prepared to join the police, and hospital staff across the country have been advised to be ready for another attack. According to Reuters, Ms. Rudd, speaking in a television interview with the global network 'BBC,' reported on the ongoing police operations to arrest members of this network, stating that 11 individuals have been arrested so far in this regard. Police have released a photo of Salman Abedi, the 22-year-old attacker, taken hours before he detonated himself. Previously, the British government had stated that Salman Abedi was known to the country's security services, but the Home Secretary refrained from providing further details on this matter. The suicide bombing last Monday night at a concert venue in Manchester left 22 dead and 59 injured. The Manchester attack has been the deadliest terrorist incident in the UK since 2005. In the summer of 2005, the terrorist group al-Qaeda killed 52 people by bombing several London subway stations. The Manchester incident has also drawn severe criticism towards the British government, which has cut police funding. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.
