UK Police Investigates New 'Partygate' Allegations Against Boris Johnson

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing further investigations into the 'Partygate' scandal after two police forces released information regarding his potential COVID quarantine violations on Tuesday. According to AFP, the Metropolitan Police of London confirmed that it is 'reviewing' new information received last week concerning 'possible breaches' of COVID regulations in Downing Street between June 2020 and May 2021. Meanwhile, The Times, which reported the story, stated that the police are analyzing new information related to potential law-breaking at properties associated with Boris Johnson outside of London. Several sources told the newspaper that the potential violations may involve Johnson's family and friends, although a source close to the former party leader denied this claim. Johnson, 58, was ousted from the premiership last summer following disputes within the ruling party after months of allegations regarding quarantine violations and other scandals. He has consistently denied in Parliament any potential breaches of COVID quarantine, which he or his staff allegedly violated by holding large gatherings on Downing Street during the pandemic restrictions. However, the police issued fines after criminal investigations for dozens of his aides, making Johnson the first UK Prime Minister to break the 'law' at a gathering. Now, the specter of new police investigations is haunting cabinet office members who supported the Prime Minister.
