Ukraine Advances in the 'Southern Fronts' of the War

Ukrainian officials announced that their forces are advancing on the southern fronts against Russian occupying soldiers. Concurrently with this news and the 'desperate resistance' of Russian soldiers in the east, Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, described the advance in the counteroffensive as the 'most important issue.' In his nightly message, Zelensky stated, 'Every soldier, every new step we take, every meter of Ukrainian land freed from the enemy is of great importance.' Russia has yet to confirm Ukraine's advances in the early stages of the counteroffensive and claims to have inflicted heavy casualties on Ukrainian forces in the past 24 hours. However, the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense announced via Telegram that the country's soldiers are simultaneously advancing in multiple directions. According to Hanna Maliar, Russian forces are trying to drive Ukrainian defenders from their positions. Additionally, the commander of Ukrainian soldiers on the southern fronts stated on Friday that in the past 24 hours, there were 36 clashes and 578 attacks in this region, resulting in hundreds of Russian casualties. In the east, Ukrainian forces are trying to push Russian troops out of the outskirts of the devastated city of Bakhmut, which was captured by Russia last month. The commander of the Ukrainian ground forces had previously described the situation on the eastern fronts as tense. According to him, offensive actions in various directions, the recapture of heights, and forest strips aimed at gradually driving out the Russians are ongoing. Bakhmut has been the scene of some of the fiercest fighting between Putin's troops and Ukrainian defenders since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Bombing of Kyiv coincides with the visit of African leaders; Russia wants 'more war.' Russia's efforts to normalize the situation in occupied areas under the shadow of Ukraine's counteroffensive.
