Ukraine Claims to Have Killed Russian Admiral in Missile Strike on Crimea

On Monday, Ukraine announced that the commander of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea, Admiral Viktor Sokolov, was killed in a Ukrainian missile strike on the fleet's headquarters in Crimea. This news has not yet been confirmed by Russia. According to Reuters, Ukraine's special forces stated in a statement that the missile strike occurred on September 22, injuring 34 officers and 105 other Russian soldiers. The attack also caused significant damage to the Russian fleet's headquarters. The head of Ukrainian intelligence also told Voice of America on Saturday, October 1, that as a result of Friday's attack by Kyiv on the Black Sea fleet, at least 9 people were killed and 16 were injured. The Ukrainian army also provided more details about the attack on Sevastopol on Friday. According to the Ukrainian army, the air force conducted 12 strikes on the Black Sea fleet's headquarters, targeting areas where personnel, military equipment, and weapons were concentrated. The report states that two anti-aircraft missile systems and four Russian artillery units were targeted.
