Ukraine Recaptures Eight Villages from Russia in Two Weeks of Counteroffensive

On Monday, Ukraine announced that over the course of two weeks of counteroffensives against Russian forces, it has recaptured eight villages from enemy occupation. The latest village reclaimed by Ukraine is located on the front lines of the war near the route leading to the coast of the Sea of Azov. According to Hanna Maliar, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, following the recapture of the village of Pyatykhatky, Ukrainian forces have penetrated seven kilometers deep into Russian lines and have seized 113 square kilometers of territory. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed appreciation for the efforts of his soldiers on Sunday evening and stated that he would continue discussions with Western allies to secure weapons and ammunition. Reports indicate that both sides have sustained heavy casualties in recent battles. The war in Ukraine has killed thousands of civilians, displaced millions from their homes, and destroyed cities and villages since February 2022. With increasing casualties from the collapse of the Kakhovka Dam, Russia rejected humanitarian aid from the United Nations.
