Ukraine Reports the Arrest of Two North Korean Soldiers

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Saturday that Ukrainian forces have arrested two North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region of Russia. This is the first time Ukraine has reported the capture of North Korean soldiers on the front lines against Putin's forces. Zelensky shared images of the two injured soldiers on his Telegram channel, stating that they have been transferred to Kyiv and are currently cooperating with Ukrainian security agencies. According to the Ukrainian president, Russian and North Korean forces are attempting to conceal the presence of North Korean soldiers in Putin's campaign, and to prevent the capture of these soldiers, they may resort to killing them if necessary. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Security Service reported that one of the captured soldiers had no identification documents, while the other carried a fake Russian military ID. One of the soldiers told Ukrainian security forces that they were informed in North Korea that they were going to Russia for training, but after only a week of practice, they were sent to the front lines against Ukraine. In recent weeks, Ukraine has reported the deaths and injuries of hundreds of North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region of Russia. According to official Ukrainian sources, there are currently between 10,000 to 12,000 North Korean soldiers present in Russia. The White House and Pentagon have confirmed that these forces are mainly active on the front lines as infantry. The U.S. stated that North Korea's combat capability is increasing with the deployment of troops to Russia. Zelensky has reiterated his request to the West to strengthen Ukraine's air defense. The U.S. has imposed a new round of sanctions against Russia and North Korea, and Zelensky noted that more North Korean forces have been stationed in the Kursk region of Russia.
