Ukraine: We Destroyed Several Russian Air Defense Systems in Crimea; Moscow Continues Attacks on Kyiv's Infrastructure

The Ukrainian army claims to have targeted three Russian surface-to-air missile systems in the occupied Crimean Peninsula. This is the second reported attack on Russian air defenses in Crimea within a week. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced on Wednesday, June 13, that they targeted one S-300 system and two advanced S-400 systems near Belbek and Sevastopol in the occupied Crimean Peninsula, destroying at least two radars. On Monday, the Ukrainian army also targeted three Russian air defense systems near Yevpatoria and Chornomorske in the peninsula, causing damage to the radars. A statement published on the Telegram page of the Ukrainian army stated, 'As a result of Wednesday's attacks, two radars from the Russian S-300 and S-400 systems were destroyed. Information regarding the third radar is under investigation.' However, the Kremlin-appointed governor of Sevastopol claimed that air defense successfully repelled the nighttime missile attack and that no damage was incurred. Reuters reported local social media users' accounts of explosions in the Crimean Peninsula in the Black Sea. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces also stated that the attacks at all three locations were accompanied by explosions of Russian military munitions. Russia forcibly occupied and annexed Crimea in 2014 and now claims that Crimea is an inseparable part of Russian territory. However, Ukraine asserts that it will expel Russian forces from Crimea and other parts of Ukrainian territory under Moscow's control. On the other hand, Reuters reported an increase in instances of water and electricity outages in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, due to Russian attacks. According to this report, since early April, when Russia targeted energy systems in the capital and other Ukrainian cities, reducing half of the energy production capacity, the nearly three million residents of Kyiv have repeatedly faced such disruptions.
