Ukraine's Critical Sympathy with Israel: We Should Have United Against Iranian Drones

The Ukrainian ambassador to Israel expressed condolences following the recent deadly drone attack by Hezbollah on an Israeli army base, while lamenting Jerusalem's disregard for previous proposals from Kyiv for cooperation against Iranian-made drones. Yevhen Korniichuk said on Monday to the 'Vaynet' website: 'We both face a common enemy, which is the Islamic Republic. We had previously warned you about this threat and Iranian-made drones, but Israel woke up after the October 7 attack.' He added that Ukraine, which has been dealing with Iranian-made drones since the Russian invasion in early 2022, offered military and technological cooperation to Israel in February 2023, and even provided parts of these drones as part of Kyiv's broader efforts to persuade Jerusalem to take a stronger stance in favor of Ukraine and against Russia, but Israel rejected these proposals. The Ukrainian ambassador in Israel also recalled that in June 2023, Andriy Yermak, head of President Volodymyr Zelensky's office, told the 'Times of Israel' that no one but Israel could provide equipment to counter Iranian drone attacks. Israeli sources reported that in the past year, about 1,200 Iranian-made drones have been fired at Israel by 'terrorist groups' supported by the Islamic Republic, with 220 of these drones breaching Israeli defense systems. The President of Ukraine stated in October 2022: 'We fight every day against 400 attacks from Iranian drones on people, civilians, and infrastructure.'
