UN: Distribution of Aid in Gaza Impossible Without Fuel for Trucks

Farhan Haq, spokesperson for the United Nations, said on Friday that Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, wants to ensure that the UN Relief and Works Agency trucks have enough fuel to distribute humanitarian aid shipments in Gaza. According to CNN, Farhan Haq stated, "There is no point in collecting aid and then leaving it in Gaza, as the trucks do not have enough fuel to deliver the aid to those in need." The UN spokesperson also noted that Antonio Guterres explicitly stated, "He has called for a humanitarian ceasefire and wants the humanitarian ceasefire to be a condition for aid delivery." According to UN reports, currently, 219 trucks are waiting at the Rafah border crossing, including 15 trucks belonging to the Egyptian Red Crescent and 104 trucks carrying aid from other countries. Antonio Guterres visited the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip on Friday, urging all international parties to cooperate to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the besieged Palestinians in Gaza. The UN Secretary-General described the aid trucks as a "lifeline" and crucial for the "life and death" of Palestinians living in Gaza, emphasizing the need for their rapid transfer to the besieged region. The opening of the Rafah crossing for the people of Gaza is a matter of life and death. UK Prime Minister Sunak's meeting with Abbas and Sisi; he called for the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council and ASEAN called for an "immediate and lasting ceasefire" between Israel and Hamas. Guterres's visit to the Rafah border crossing coincided with intensified efforts to assist civilians in Gaza. The UN Secretary-General arrived in Egypt to oversee the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. The Israeli Defense Minister instructed ground forces to prepare for an attack on Gaza.
