UN-Linked Organization in Iraq Condemns IRGC Missile Attacks in Erbil

The UN-linked organization in Iraq condemned the missile attack by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Erbil, the center of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region in northern Iraq. The 'UN Assistance Mission' in Iraq stated in a post on social media platform X on Tuesday: 'We strongly condemn Iran's attack last night on areas in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which resulted in civilian casualties. Attacks from any side that violate Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity must cease.' The UN agency added that security concerns should be addressed 'through dialogue.' The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq was established on August 14, 2003, by UN Security Council Resolution 1500 at the request of the Iraqi government to support national development efforts in the country. On Monday, the IRGC targeted several locations in Erbil with ballistic missiles, including what they referred to as a 'spy base for the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad' and 'anti-Iran terrorist groups' in Syria. These attacks, which led to the deaths of at least four civilians and injuries to six others according to the Kurdistan Region Security Council, were condemned by the United States, which described them as 'reckless' and inaccurate amid rising concerns about the escalation of regional conflicts. Additionally, a drone was reportedly shot down over Erbil airport.
