UN Relief Agency: Our Fuel Supplies in Gaza Have Run Out

A UN agency active in providing aid to Palestinian refugees states that its fuel storage in the Gaza Strip has been depleted, and the organization will no longer be able to deliver supplies to hospitals, evacuate sewage, or provide drinking water. UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, has sheltered approximately 800,000 people, equivalent to half of the population of Gaza who have fled their homes. These individuals left their homes following Israeli military operations in response to deadly attacks by Hamas on southern Israel on October 6. The Hamas militant group, which is financially and militarily supported by the Islamic Republic, killed at least 1,200 Israelis, mostly civilians, in a terrorist attack on Israel on October 6 and kidnapped around 240 Israelis and foreign nationals, including children, women, and the elderly. Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA Commissioner-General, stated on Monday, November 13, in Geneva, Switzerland, that the agency's strategic fuel storage at the Israeli border has gradually run out. He added that the organization's request to the Israeli army for a fuel resupply has gone unanswered. Israel, emphasizing that fuel could be used for Hamas's offensive operations, is preventing fuel imports into Gaza. Lazzarini also mentioned that without fuel, desalination plants in Gaza, which provide drinking water for at least 290,000 people, will inevitably cease operations on Wednesday, November 15.
